Overview

Reporting to the General Manager, Corporate Services, the newly created Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, Lead will be a key member of the city’s leadership team, that will provide leadership, strategic direction, guidance and expertise in equity, diversity, inclusion (EDI), human rights, anti-racism, anti-oppression and accessibility.

As a dynamic and passionate individual you will promote and lead the implementation of city strategies, action plan and Accessibility Plan that will  build bridges with internal departments and leadership to ensure a safe work culture, and staff well-being.  The ideal person will humanize the values of integrity, trust, and ethics while being a proponent of self-development. The idea of servant leadership will ground the candidate to create an atmosphere conducive to achieving high levels of quality of life and health and safety for all colleagues within the corporation.   


The EDI Lead will be committed to the principles of servant leadership and guidance, being a strong advocate and teacher of learning and development, customer focus, project management, planning, with a strong commitment to achieving results and continuous improvement.   Sets above average standards and leads by example. 

The EDI Lead is responsible in ensuring the proper development of the following:

  • Provide leadership and expertise in the design, development and implementation of organization-wide EDI and Accessibility strategies, frameworks and multi-year action plans that include short-term and long-term goals, and metrics
  • Facilitating and guiding the EDI efforts to review, evaluate, define, understand, assess, foster, and identify opportunities and strategies in all departments and teams of the city, and stakeholder experiences
  • Establish personal credibility as a trusted and respected thought leader, advisor, partner, and consultant to the senior leadership team and organization in support of EDI goals and objectives
  • Provide subject matter expertise, guidance and advice to all areas of the city regarding policy development and interpretation, continuing to build on accessibility standards, diversity, equity, inclusion, accommodation, and respect in the workplace.
  • Utilizing your strong knowledge in employment and human rights legislation, to partner with organizational leaders in gathering, collecting and assessing information related to requests for accommodation, reported incidents of discrimination or harassment, and/or any other EDI-related initiatives or concerns
  • Propose, design, implement, and work with confidential staff census surveys for meaningful organizational and community engagement ensuing the city has the relevant information it needs to support a safe and diverse community and workforce
  • Lead the research, design, development and sustainment of core EDI and anti-racism training and education programs and initiatives to advance the awareness and understanding of EDI concepts across the organization and build understanding of systemic discrimination and cultural competency for all staff
  • Facilitate and coordinate, the internal EDI committee(s) and processes that will build the foundation of departmental equity, accessibility, diversity and inclusion activities
  • Personify the facilitation skills that bring people to the table and create a safe and non-judgmental space for open, insightful dialogue that propels EDI work forward

     

Required Qualifications & Experience

 

  •    A post-secondary education in humanities, social services, cultural studies, human resources, change management, business administration, or public administration, would be ideal; couple this with several years of work experience and formal training as an facilitator
  • Bring an innovative and creative approach to drafting business cases/reports coupled with the ability to research and interpret provincial or other governmental guidelines and directives
  • Core competencies for the position include the ability to manage and measure the process outcomes , build a business acumen that operationalizes these principles, being able to organize people and ideas to achieve an outcome, ensure sound organizational decision making, have strong skills in constructively managing conflict that does not damage relationships, and possessing the proper leadership courage to address and build on the areas that need development. 
  • Fully bilingual in French and English would be considered an asset.

 

The City of Cornwall offers a starting annual salary of $82,626 plus a comprehensive benefits package.
