Human Resources Coordinator

The City of Owen Sound is seeking experienced and qualified applicants for the contract role of Human Resources Coordinator. The Human Resources Coordinator will work with the Human Resources team to coordinate the day-to-day activities within the Human Resources Division with a focus on Health & Safety. The Human Resources Coordinator will also assist with recruitment & selection, HRIS administration, metrics, and tracking. The HR Coordinator will ensure that the City provides a healthy and safe working environment for its employees and that legislative requirements are met.

Owen Sound is a diverse and culturally rich community located on the southern shores of Georgian Bay in Southern Ontario, approximately two hours north of Toronto, and on the doorstep of the Bruce Peninsula. The successful candidate will have a diploma or degree in Human Resources, Occupational Health & Safety, Disability Management, or related field or equivalent education and experience. CHRP and/or CRSP designation and/or certificate in Disability Management are considered assets.

Additional Skills/Competencies/Requirements:

  • Strong knowledge of related legislation including Human Rights code, Labour Relations Act, Employment Standards Act OSHA, NIOSH, and other applicable provincial and federal safety regulations.
  • Strong degree of integrity and resolve
  • Self-starter who works with limited direction
  • Results driven who ensures the right course of action is taken
  • Excellent negotiation skill/team building capabilities
  • Good time management, planning and organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Strong verbal, written and presentation communication skills
  • Demonstrated experience in policy writing and development
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) and ability to learn new software.
  • Ability to clearly and effectively present/exchange/explain/receive/interpret information, adjusting language or terminology to the needs of the audience, while exercising respect, tact, and courtesy at all times.
  • Demonstrate responsibility for independent work, completion of assignments with minimal assistance, while anticipating potential issues.  Ability to anticipate needs and priorities about the department and the organization.
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude towards work and co-workers.  Commit to establish and maintain positive working relationships with others; work as a team member, occasionally as a team leader.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Possess a valid driver’s licence and access to a reliable vehicle
