Health & Safety/Human Resources Advisor

The Township is currently seeking an experienced professional, with the knowledge, skills and abilities to provide the statutory duties and responsibilities in the full-time position of Health & Safety/Human Resources Advisor.

The Health & Safety/Human Resources Advisor will provide advice to departmental management and staff on Health and Safety and Human Resources policies and practices related to the management of non-union, unionized staff and volunteers including, recruitment, wellness, health and safety, and payroll administration. The successful applicant will assist in the development and recommendation of structures and systems for corporate H&S implementation and Corporate Recruitment to ensure regulatory and policy compliance. Including, the coordination of the Joint Health and Safety Committee’s activities including meetings, training and inspections, provide advice and guidance to the Co-Chairs and liaise with government agencies to resolve issues.  Providing oversight, administration and participation in the recruitment process for Bargaining Unit, Contract and Student employees.

The Township is implementing a new HRIS/Payroll program/process in 2022, your HRIS and Payroll skills will be invaluable working with the team to build and implement new practices and procedures. You will be responsible to conduct ongoing corporate training, HRIS maintenance including the assisting with the implementation of a new HRIS program.  The successful candidate will act as back up in the processing of payroll and benefits administration.

The applicant must have a post-secondary degree or diploma in human resources, labour relations, health and safety or a related discipline combined with Certified Human Resources Leader (CHRL) and/or Canadian Registered Safety Professional designation(s). The position requires the incumbent to have a sound knowledge of health and safety, labour and payroll legislation, standards, methods, techniques and practices with a minimum of three (3) years of related experience within a unionized environment with the ability to work outside normal business hours as required. This position requires excellent computer, interpersonal, oral and written communication, public relations, analytical and problem-solving skills. 

The successful candidate must meet the Province of Ontario’s definition of COVID-19 “fully vaccinated” or provide proof of a Human Rights Code exemption prior to commencement of their employment in accordance with the Township’s COVID-19 Vaccination Policy.
